Saints Capital MD Ghia Griarte rounds out blockbuster IOS 2012 panel

Saints Capital managing director Ghia Griarte rounds out the blockbuster Analyst Panel at IOS 2012. The theme for the panel, “Niches within Niches: Is hyperspecialization the future of IT-BPO,” promises a robust discussion among top IT-BPO industry analysts, executives, and investors. The panel will address increasing client-side pressure for domain expertise in partners, and other emerging challenges in best-practice services delivery.

Prior to joining Saints in 2003, Ms. Griarte was at Centennial Ventures, a communications-focused early-stage venture capital firm.  At Centennial, Ms. Griarte was involved with investments in broadband access, cable, networking, satellite, wireless and digital media.  Prior to Centennial Ventures, Ms. Griarte was a consultant at Gemini Consulting in the Telecom, Media and Networks practice focused on major U.S., European and Israeli wireline and wireless telecommunications companies.  Ms. Griarte began her career as an electrical systems engineer at Lockheed Martin and chaired the Corporate Avionics Taskforce.

Ms. Griarte received an MBA from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management, an MEM from the Robert L. McCormick School of Engineering, and BS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Opportunities in China, emerging markets up at IOS 2012

Top IT-BPO executives will discuss opportunities for business development and services delivery in China and emerging markets at the International Outsourcing Summit. The Summit kicks off October 7.

Suzanne Callister, regional director for corporate services at TMF Group, will present her experience and perspective on the China market during the panel discussion, “Diversification Strategy: How do IT-BPO companies wean themselves from dependence on the US market?” China is more than a launchpad for ITO services according to industry experts. It’s also fertile ground for domestic services delivery.

Asheesh Mehra, Asia Pacific, Japan, and Middle East head for Infosys BPO, agrees. Mr. Mehra is an evangelist for emerging markets, citing case studies from Africa, South America, and Asia as evidence of compelling opportunities outside developed economies. According to Mehra, emerging markets on these continents will dominate global commerce in the next half century, and now is the time to act for companies that want to contribute in a meaningful way to their development.

Other top IT-BPO executives from Aegis, Tata Consultancy Services, Telstra, Cognizant, and SPi Global will also participate in the discussion, which will be moderated by San Miguel Purefoods vice president Oscar Sanez. Mr. Sanez was previously president and CEO of the Business Processing Association, and helped lead the Philippine industry to international prominence.

With 14 days to go, IOS announces more top speakers, panelists

With just 14 days to go to the opening reception of the International Outsourcing Summit (IOS 2012), organizers continued to announce the addition of more top speakers. Approximately 500 delegates and 70 speakers and panelists are expected to attend IOS 2012, the fourth time the annual Summit has been conducted. Some of the latest speakers announced include:

Winston Damarillo,  CEO & Co-founder, Morphlabs and Chairman & Co-founder of Exist Global, Inc.

Winston Damarillo has a long-standing history of building innovative technology start-ups. AT Intel Capital, where he was among the highest performing venture capital professionals. His first start-up, Gluecode, made waves as IBM’s first open source acquisition in 2005. Similar exit profiles were seen with two other  companies, Logicblaze and Webtide. Winston is presently Chairman of Exist, a software & technology powerhouse with Open Source roots, and MaestroDev, a software development automation company. He is also CEO of Morphlabs, a leader in converged infrastructure solutions for the enterprise. Winston is a Young Global Leader honoree, active participant of the World Economic Forum, and trustee of PhilDev, an organization focused in building an ecosystem of science and technology-based entrepreneurship and innovation for social and economic development in the Philippines.

Huw Watkins, Managing Consultant, PA Consulting

Huw has 20 years’ experience leading multifunction shared services and outsourcing work for Fortune 500 companies around the world. A senior member of the PA Consulting Shared Services and Outsourcing practice,  Huw advises clients on sourcing strategy, location selection, captive shared service design and outsourcing. Tallwood Venture Capital’s Dado Banatao to moderate software services panel at IOS 2012

The Philippines is a mature global location for software services, joining the ranks of China, Brazil, India, and Poland, according to a report by the Everest Group. The Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) says software and information technology (IT) outsourcing is a top contributor to industry growth.

“The Philippine software industry is positioned competitively in the global market,” said Benedict Hernandez, BPAP president and CEO. “In 2011, the software industry grew 37% and earned US$993 million in revenues. It also grew its workforce by almost 50,000 full-time employees. These gains clearly demonstrate the potential of the Philippine software industry in an environment in which demand for these value-added services is increasing exponentially.” Continue reading

A mobile app for delegates to IOS 2012

Delegates to the International Outsourcing Summit (IOS) in Manila this October can download and use a mobile app developed for Android and iOS handheld devices to keep abreast of changes in the agenda, manage their schedules, and take advantage of networking opportunities.

Analysts report that an increasing number of information technology and business process outsourcing (IT-BPO) players are getting past security concerns and seeing the value of cloud, mobile, and social media technologies in their operations. Many firms are using these technologies to streamline the value chain and help reduce capital outlay and operational costs, according to McKinsey & Company. Philippines’ President Benigno S. Aquino III is the confirmed keynote speaker for IOS 2012

Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III is the confirmed keynote speaker for the fourth International Outsourcing Summit. Mr. Aquino will speak to approximately 500 delegates and 70 speakers and panelists on the final day of the Summit in its concluding plenary.

This will be the second year that Mr. Aquino will speak at the IOS. His acceptance comes on the heels of a widely respected and closely watched global report showing that the Philippines has dramatically improved its national competitiveness in the first two years of his administration. The Philippines has moved up 22 places since 2009 in the Global Competitiveness Report to 65 among 144 economies surveyed. Continue reading
